Donna Hopper, of Toft Hill, received the second Unsung Hero award, a scheme created by Bishop Auckland MP, Dehenna Davison, to recognise efforts from local residents who are going above and beyond to help those in need throughout the Coronavirus pandemic.
Dehenna today (Friday 1st May) made a contactless delivery with the award, chocolates from Barnard Castle-based Chocolate Fayre, and a bottle of Prosecco. Of the many nominations Donna received, residents described Hooper as, “Being an excellent help for the village”. On why they nominated her, residents described her as a “fantastic credit to the community, always wanting to help others and has time for everyone. Such a lovely person inside and out”. Another saying, “since day one she has offered her support to anyone within the local community. She has been willing to do everything and anything she can to help and has a heart of gold!”
Dehenna said “After receiving so many nominations, it was clear that Donna should be this week’s winner. She has been working tirelessly to help people in Toft Hill and Etherley with food and medicine deliveries, showing the exact kind of spirit the Our Unsung Heroes project is all about. Well done, Donna!”
The Unsung Heroes scheme will see a new hero announced every Friday of lockdown. Nominations for that week are open until 5pm on Thursday.
