Dehenna Davison MP joined volunteers at Knights Pharmacy in Bishop Auckland this weekend to help facilitate the rollout of the Coronavirus vaccine.
With three quarters of over 80s now having received a first dose of the Coronavirus vaccine, the UK’s vaccination effort is in full swing. Latest data shows that over 6 million people have received their first dose and the Government are on target to reach their goal of getting those in the first four priority risk groups, equating to 80% of Coronavirus deaths, having received their first dose of the vaccine by the middle of February.
Dehenna Davison MP joined volunteers at Knights Pharmacy over the weekend [23rd-24th January], as part of the Government’s NHS Volunteer’s scheme, designed to
relieve some of the pressures on health care assistants and see the delivery of vaccinations faster.
The Bishop Auckland MP has welcomed Knights, on Escomb Road in Bishop Auckland, becoming one of the latest places to begin administering the vaccination. 65 pharmacy sites joined the programme last week and early this week, with more to come. After her shift at the pharmacy, Dehenna Davison MP said:
“I would urge anyone who can to offer up some time to help facilitate the rollout of the vaccine. Our healthcare professionals have already done an incredible job delivering over 6 million vaccines to date and I know that the expansion of the Vaccine delivery plan will see the Government hitting their target in February.
“I am grateful to the team at Knights Pharmacy for being so welcoming when I turned up for my first shift. I was lucky enough to have a quick tour around the facilities and felt truly delighted to see the small boxes with the vaccine doses in. The positivity from the staff and patients has been so inspiring and I can’t wait for my next shift!”
Already in Cumbria and the North East, 271,536 vaccinations have been administered, as part of plans to vaccinate the top 4 priority groups by mid-February. In the North East, 618,761 people have received a vaccine, with 688,990 doses administered in total across the area. On top of this, the Government is opening up new vaccination sites every day as part of the Vaccine Delivery Plan to ensure everyone is within 10 miles of a vaccination centre.
