Bishop Auckland MP Dehenna Davison launches plans to award local resident who represents the ‘Best of Bishop’.

With the end of 2020 in sight, Dehenna Davison MP has called on residents to vote in a new scheme to recognise local heroes, called ‘Unsung Hero of the Year’. The latest scheme from the MP will recognise residents who have gone above and beyond in our community throughout the Coronavirus pandemic.

Earlier this year Dehenna Davison MP launched the Unsung Hero Awards to honour those who champion the best of Bishop, whether this was helping those effected by Covid-19, using a talent to keep spirits up, or delivering free meals to the vulnerable. Earlier this year she awarded six residents from across her constituency, including: Evenwood, Toft Hill, Barnard Castle, and Teesdale, with a handful of prizes from local businesses alongside a certificate to commend their brilliant work.

Previous winner and nominee, Kimberly Clark said:

“The Unsung Hero awards are a great way to recognise the good in our community and it was really nice to know that so many people recognised my and all the other winners hard work, during the tricky months earlier this year.

“I am looking forward to hearing who is nominated this time and I definitely have a few people in mind I think deserve the recognition for their continuous community support.”

Today [11th December], Dehenna Davison MP has posted to her social media, announcing the 12 nominations she has selected out of the hundreds of nominations sent in by residents.

Commenting on the scheme Dehenna said:

“Earlier this year I launched the Unsung Hero Awards to recognise residents who have gone above and beyond in our community during the Coronavirus pandemic.

“We received over 400 nominations and delivered a range of prizes from local businesses to people who represent the best of Bishop. As a tough year draws to a close, I knew I wanted to recognise someone in our community who has made life this year a little easier, kinder or a little bit brighter.

“I am delighted to have selected these 12 individuals who truly deserve all our thanks and I look forward to seeing who is voted the winner.”

Voting is open from today until the 18th of December.
