Durham County Council is looking to introduce selective licensing for County Durham in Spring 2021.

Selective licensing is where parts of the county are subject to a designation under the Housing Act 2004. The designation makes it compulsory for all private rented accommodation in that area to get a license from the local authority. The scheme will mean landlords must apply for a licence.

1) Durham County Council are looking to introduce the licence for landlords, with a charge of up to £500 on their first property, and an additional £405 for any subsequent properties. Do you agree with this charge?
2) Durham County Council have suggested up to 42% of homes in the private rental sector in County Durham may need to apply for the above licence. Does this concern you?
